Insight into Instagram’s New Set of Business Tools

Instagram has released a new set of business tools making it easier for advertisers to stand out from ordinary users as well as improving analytical capabilities.

‘Business Profiles’ are now available in Europe and the social network has also added a ‘contact’ button enabling customers to connect with brands on the social media platform.

A new tool, ‘Promote’, enables brands to place popular posts at the top of users’ news feeds, allowing firms “to reach new customers on the go using Facebook’s best in class targeting and measurement”, according to Instagram.

A mobile analytics suite will also enable companies to receive ‘actionable information’ about shoppers in a user-friendly format.

With 200,000 advertisers active on Instagram, this latest update has been designed with businesses in mind to encourage new sign ups and keep current users of the Facebook-owned app, engaged.

Instagram’s EMEA head of brand development, Amy Cole, said smaller firms have been a “key part” of the Instagram community from the beginning and that many had turned to Instagram because it “makes it easy to connect with a relevant audience, anywhere in the world when they’re in a key mind-set of discovery.”

She went on to say that, “small businesses are some of the most creative and innovative in our community and it’s incredible how many businesses have grown using the platform. But we want to make Instagram work even better for them, so we listened carefully to their feedback to understand challenges they face, and the tools they need to drive real business results.

“With Business Tools now available across Europe, it will be even easier for small businesses to get insights, connect with new customers and promote their favourite posts straight from a mobile device.”

Instagram now has over half a billion users worldwide, with 80 per cent of its subscribers based outside the US.

As a busy communications consultancy, digital and social media are at the heart of Jago’s work.  We are looking forward to using these new business tools that will hopefully allow more accurate measurement of our Instagram campaigns for clients while offering lots of potential for brand-consumer contact on the platform.
