Public Relations

Fiona HannaCommunications Manager

From a classroom to an office…

Post from work experience student Maya

It has been an honour to be able to do work experience with Jago Communications this week. I have been able to experience the everyday life of having a job in public relations and I must say it has been incredible! The team are so lovely and throughout the office and the places I have travelled this week there is such an exciting atmosphere in PR.

As in every workplace there are frequent changes in pace. For example, one day could be nice and quiet when writing is the key focus. The next could see everybody making lots of phone calls rushing around to get deadlines met, updated or finished. But the best thing is that everybody gets along and cooperates so easily and helps each other through it all. Which in my eyes is such good teamwork and is one of the many reasons I believe Jago Communications is such a successful business.

I took part in many different activities throughout my work experience such as media monitoring which was interesting, and it showed how far many of Jago clients have come in their industries. I attended a meeting and got to witness how one business can start small but with creative PR it can improve and become more successful. I also attended a film shoot. I met so many nice people and experienced what it is like to be on set of a digital video shoot. I learnt many techniques to do with filming a piece. Apart from these times I was in the office completing spreadsheets, guestlists and many other things. This conveyed to me what it is like to work in an office and when I needed help there was always somebody there to assist me. Everybody communicated and got along so well. It is such a comfortable, vibrant and helpful environment.

I carried out tasks such as:

-Monitoring Media

-Evaluating Media Coverage

-Participating in a media campaign

-Writing creatively

I am so grateful for this opportunity and I would recommend Jago Communications to anybody who is interested in working in a busy agency or wants experience of it. I do not regret this decision one bit. IT’S BEEN A BLAST!
