Peter’s Run touches hearts

Every once in a while, a cause or campaign comes along which stops us in our tracks at Jago and makes us think, we HAVE to be involved in this.

Our pro bono Go Project is the perfect vehicle to allow us to throw the full weight of our agency behind these worthy causes and our latest venture is one which will live long in the hearts of everyone of us who worked on it.

At just 19, Tipperary man Peter Ryan was diagnosed with a rare genetic condition, Leber’s Hereditary Optic Neuropathy. It means Peter has lost around 90% of his vision. Despite this obvious challenge, Peter set himself the target of running the 586km from Malin to Mizen in just five days to raise funds for a Vision Van, the country’s first mobile information and eye health awareness unit to be operated by Vision Ireland.

Having raised over €100,000 he smashed his initial target. His story struck a chord across the country and beyond with our work to promote his monumental efforts securing 185 pieces of combined print and broadcast coverage. With our help, Peter shared his story on the Tommy Tiernan Show, The Late Late Show, Ireland AM and RTE 2FM inspiring millions of people and raising awareness about eye health, the impact of which will be felt for years to come.

Our own Fiona joined the support team for parts of Peter’s Run and to be part of such an incredible endeavour was an immensely proud and humbling moment for everyone at Jago.

“When I began losing my sight at 19, I needed to find a new purpose and sport was it. I love pushing my body to the limit and this challenge, running from Malin to Mizen in just five days, has become my next big focus.”
